2016 Indian Night – Shawls & pots for widows
Calvary Family Church and The Rubbish Removers got together in October 2016 and along with 150 enthusiastic people feasted on a Indian three course meal with the chef making Romali roti fresh over the gas cooker. We had Pakoras, Gobi Manchurians, Kababs, Veg jalfrazzi, lamb saagwala, saffron rice finishing off with chai and gulab julams.
It was an evening under the stars with music and good friends. And together we were able to gift over 500 tribal widows a handloomed shawl and 3 pots each. These gifts were chosen by the local NGO as being items that the widows both wanted and needed.
The hand loomed shawls were organised by a local Indian man in Gujarat. He organised his female loomers to make the shawls and paid them more then usual, and charged us less then the normal rate. This was his way of helping he told us. The shawls are pure wool, as big as a small blanket and are patterned with a beautiful local tribal design.
